This is a Review of the Zojirushi EC-BD15BA Fresh Brew Coffee Maker
Over the course of this coffee maker review I want to give a thorough detailing of this coffee maker and hopefully allow you to decide whether this is the ideal unit for you or not. The Zojirushi can brew up to 8 cups, so is more of a medium sized machine, and will brew 8 5.25 ounce cups or roughly 4 or so mugs of coffee. There are quite a few larger machines available but this is sufficient for home use, unless you have a houseful of coffee lovers that is.
The mechanics of this coffee maker
The heating element is of a high quality and keeps the water temperature consistent throughout the brew cycle in this coffee maker. This is unfortunately tempered by the fact that after the heating element has heated the water, the pipe which transfers the just heated water to the shower head travels straight through the water reservoir and yep you guessed it, a tank of cold water. This issue can be worked around and my advice to you would be to avoid using "chilled" water when filling the tank in your coffee maker.
The dispersion of water to the coffee grinds is very thought out and this shower head disperses the water evenly and saturates all of the coffee grinds with water in this coffee maker. Some coffee makers still use the stream application method and this almost always leaves us with that ring of dry coffee around the edge of the basket which means we are not getting all the coffee that we measured into our cup which logically leads to weak coffee.
No more burnt coffee!
The thermal carafe is a welcome addition, those of us who have been used to drinking "burnt" coffee can be a little happier now, because the heating plate which is the cause of that burning is not in use in this coffee maker. The thermal carafe keeps our coffee hot and fresh for hours after we have brewed it. There is also insulation on the brew basket, so we don't lose any heat during the brewing process either, well done Zojirushi.
